Ground Wave Propagation
-
Ground Wave Propagation (< 2M .Hz):
- It follows the contour of the earth.
- It can propagate considerable distances, well over the visual horizon.
- Two main factors account for behavior of EM waves in the frequency band.
- Firstly, the EM wave induces a current in the earth's surface resulting in capacitive effect and hence the wavefront goes slow near the earth.
- EM waves in this frequency range are scattered by the atmosphere in a way that they do not penetrate the upper atmosphere.
