Coaxial Cable

  • Coaxial cable carries signals of higher frequency ranges than those in twisted pair cable.
    Because it is constructed, differently to permit it to operate over a wide range of frequencies. 
    A coaxial cables surrounds the inner conductor with a dielectric such as poly ethylene and a coaxial tube of solid or braided metal surrounds the dielectric.

    It consist two wires, coaxial has central core conductor of solid enclosed in an insulating sheath, which is in turn, enclosed in an outer conductor of metal foil, braid.
    It is a hollow outer cylindrical conductor that surrounds a single inner wire conductor as shown in figure,



    Coaxial Cables are catagorised by their Radio Government Ratings.
    Each RG number denotes a unique set of physical specification.
    To connect coaxial cable to a device we need a coaxial converter. The most common type of converter is  Bayone-Neill-Concelman (BNC).

    • Co-axial cable is also commonly used for short range connection between devices.

    • coaxial cable has frequency characteristics that are superior to other and can be used effectively.
    • The coaxial cable is mch less susceptible to interface and cross talk due to its concentric construction.
    • Intermodulation occurs only when several channels (FDM) or frequency bands are used in cables.
