INTRODUCTION OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Data: data are facts or undoubted information used for different computations or calculations.

Database: A database is collection of data, which contains information about one particular enterprise. The database is used to store information useful to an organization. To represent this information some means of modeling is used. The components used in modeling are limited to the objects of interest to the organization and the relationships among these objects.

Management of data involves:

• Defining the structures for the storage of data.
• Providing the mechanisms for the security of data against unauthorized access.

The user of the DBMS is provided the following facilities among others:

1. Adding empty files to the database.
2. Inserting new data into the existing files
3. Retrieving data from the files.
4. Updating data in the files
5. Deleting data from the files
6. Removing existing files from the database.
